Your engagement!
“Medical emergency on the International Space Station/Flight to Mars”
Imagine that there is a serious medical emergency in space. As mission control of the ISS-FTM you and your international team have to setup a bio-artificial implant or external prosthesis to safe the astronaut on board.
You know the materials which are on the space station, amongst them some sensors and electronics as well as a 3D printer from the scientific experiments of the mission.
Accept the challenge! Design a device with the available resources, write the code and create a 3D printed prototype to check the functionality on ground. If you succeed, the data will be immediately transmitted to the crew, which will immediately follow your design.
You have 4 days to complete this mission.
What should you deliver in the Hackaton? (Product defintion)
1. Design an implant or external prosthesis.
2. Select and program electronics/sensors/embedded system for monitoring the implant.
3. Build the prototype: 3D printing of prototype
4. Pitch and presentation (on process and technology) 5 min presentation
What are the limiting factors of your mission? (Requirements)
- The medical condition you need to solve is limiting the astronaut in his physical abilities. Meaning, one (or more) of the limbs/joints of the astronaut is impaired. For the Hackaton you can chose on disability!
- The implant/prosthesis needs to build with the materials aboard available List of resources and manufacturing technologies
- An electronic sensor + controller needs be used to enable monitoring from with the ISS/FTM ground control on the functionality of the device or on patient data.
What elso do you have to do? (lectures and workshops)
During the workshop you will also enjoy top mini lectures each 1 to 2 hours max. to make you familiar with top technologies and skill for innovative makers. These skills are needed to enable you to complete your mission!
