"Update of the day" 02.09.2021
Dear participants,
We are impressed what you achieved and so are your mentors. For us all of you are already winners.
Tomorrow is the pitching day and preparation for it is already homework enough ;-)
For more information on the pitching (duration of presentations, criteria, etc.) please have a look at https://bioart-wiki.iucc.ac.il/index.php/Pitching
Additionally, please do not forget to upload your results to the ncloud. In your group directory you will find a directory "Result" please copy all relevant material there. You find a list of outcomes at https://bioart-wiki.iucc.ac.il/index.php/Assignments#What_do_you_need_to_produce_during_the_hackaton.3F_.28Outcomes.29
We keep our fingers crossed for tomorrow.
Best regards The BioArt team
"Update of the day" 31.08.2021
Dear participants,
a good second day and thanks for your willingness to learn and the flexibility you showed in the hick-ups of the day. I had many interesting mentoring talks and would like to answer a few common questions, the new structure of the zoom rooms and your homework.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Q1: What do I have deliver? You can find a list of deliverables of each group at https://bioart-wiki.iucc.ac.il/index.php/Assignments#What_do_you_need_to_produce_during_the_hackaton.3F_.28Outcomes.29
Please upload them to the ncloud. In your group directory you will find a folder results to store the final versions.
Q2: How deep do I have to elaborate the solution? Due to COVID we have an online-only contest, which is shorter than the original on-site contest. Due to this format we need to skip the actual creation of a prototype. Also programming is almost impossible, if you do not have the hardware to test.
The outputs are therefore expected to be on a conceptual level such as flow charts, schematics, drawings, etc.
We tried to have a balance of competencies in the groups according to your presentations on the first day. Yet, the information for this was limited. So we are aware that the groups will have different progress in some points. That is ok and we are aware of this. What is important for us, is that - you go through all steps of a prototype process including business plan and technical concepts. - that you put rationale (argumentation why) behind your decisions. - that you try to work out how you want to distinct to possible competors
Q3: What happens if I do not deliver all aspects in high depth? No tragedy! See above. We want to see that you care and engage yourself and are aware that within this short time you will not be able to, e.g., do an exhaustive competitor analysis.
Yet, if we got the impression that you shallow or event want to avoid work, we we will be strict.
Q4: Wiki: We spend much effort in the wiki. For each timeslot you have a description. Please read it. It will save you time. Best go to the schedule and klick on the items of tomorrow to see what is waiting for you. https://bioart-wiki.iucc.ac.il/index.php/Dates_and_schedule
HOMEWORK
1.) Upload missing outputs of the intercultural session https://ncloud.iucc.ac.il/index.php/apps/files/?dir=/BioArt/Student%20Contest%20File%20Sharing/All/Intercultural%20event&fileid=16562
2.) Work on your concepts and try to incooperate the mentors comments.
NEW ZOOM ROOMS
During the day (9:00-17:30) all activities will be in the main auditorium, since it turned out that switching is too complicated with the individual zoom sessions. It's a lesson learnt and the advantages we considered before haven't shown as expected. Therefore, we created the following break-out rooms:
- Mentors break-out
- Organizational brake-out (for internal use)
- Group 1 orange brake-out
- Group 2 purple brake-out
- Group 3 green brake-out
- Group 4 gray brake-out
- Group 5 blue brake-out
- Group 6 red brake-out
All the best and see you tomorrow morning.

Update on schedule 30.08.2021
Dear participants,
it was a great, yet dense first day. We hope that you enjoyed it.
Here are some important information for the next days:
1.) Homework: preparation of the extended business model until Thursday 13:30. Template can be found in the ncloud
2.) For the pitch training there is an adapted schedule to give you more time to work on your pitching presentation. See Minilecture - Entrepreneurship and business model development, pitch trainingfor details.
3.) Presence in lectures and group work I am very satisfied with the presence and activities during the first day. Dense programme, unknown people, engaged participants ... Nevertheless, we also run into the problem that for two groups more than half of the people have been missing! That is not ok and highly unfair against you colleagues. Please organize yourself to be also present at the group activities or at least plan them together with your colleagues.
Best regards The BioArt team

We thought that it would be nice to have a playlist for the BioArt summer school. Please send us up to three titles including the name of the muscian and if possible a Spotify link (share) to bioart.summerschool@iiss.at including a small text why this song is important for this summer school. The challenge is to find a song that is related to the summer school and has some special meaning for you. We are looking forward to your song! We will then create a webpage and a spotify play list at the beginning of the summer school. Also see https://bioart-wiki.iucc.ac.il/index.php/Intercultural_exchange
The summer school will start at Monday 30.8.2021 9:00 CEST (Central European Summer Time). These problems are fixed now. Please accept my apologies on that.
Please do not forget for registration and the attached presentation.

- Your contact data: e.g., email, skype, whatsapp info.
- skills or acquired competences (may be about your master/bachelor thesis)

Invitation July 2021
Dear participant,
You qualified to attend the summer school with the Erasmus+ project BioArt. Aim of this summer school is to provide you with knowledge and skills in the raising field of artificial implants and wearable biomedical devices. Aside technical knowledge we set a dedicated focus on entrepreneurial skills, which provides you advantages in your career or can even be the starting point of possible future business activities.
The summer school will include four main activities:
- Technical training on system design and bio-medical topics
- Entrepreneurial training to develop business plans and prepare for pitching
- A hackathon to apply your skills by developing the design of a device
- A student contest consisting of pitching your concept in front of an international jury
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the student contest will be executed in a purely online format with other students from Austria, Belgium, Israel, Poland, Spain and Ukraine giving you a possibility to get used to work in international teams spread over different continents. Below you will find a schedule and a first glance at the activities, which waits for you. More detailed information and the credentials for accessing the electronic collaboration tools will be sent to you one week prior to the student contest.
The summer school is organized in such a way that the knowledge you acquire during your studies is sufficient to solve the task in the team. There will be tutoring and mini lectures at the contests. Your assignments will deal with medical emergencies in space. You will get your assignment at the contest.
As preparation, we only ask two simple things from you:
- A presentation of maximum 4 slides taking a maximum of 4 minutes to describe your skills,
and the work you have done previously to let your student colleagues get a first impression on you.
- A computer with a microphone and a camera, a stable internet connection sufficient for
video conferences. Alternatively, we will also try to provide a client for your mobile phone for the video conferences. Please send your contact data and the presentation latest 23.8.2021 to the organizing committee (bioart-summerschool@iiss.at).
We are looking forward to see you in the student contest!
The BioArt project team.
